fifti mar15 invite 300PRESS RELEASE

The Females in Film and Television Industry (Fifti) Festival is founded by two young filmmakers whose journey behind the scenes of the business of film and television led them to create a festival that celebrates women's achievements, while also creating a platform for women in the creative industry to engage in business empowering events and opportunities.

The Fifti Festival will take place during national Women's Month, from 6 through 10 August 2015. This festival will not only focus on the business of film and television production, but also the many other careers that feed into the creative industry, such as make-up, catering, fashion styling and many more.

The Johannesburg branch of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has thrown its weight behind the Fifti Empowerment Plan by offering its services to young women determined to own businesses in the film and television industry. The NYDA will be signing up 50 women between the ages of 18 and 35 to help them access branding and equipment grants opportunities, as a way of creating new economic opportunities for the female youth of Gauteng.

This initiative is supported by Constitution Hill and the Gauteng Film Commission, who agree that the project is an important initiative in the economic empowerment of women to achieve gender equality in South Africa.

The Gauteng Film Commission and Constitution Hill understand the importance of hosting monthly movie nights, involving screenings of female produced/directed film and television shows. The first event launches on 19 March 2015, under the theme, "Women's Rights in Human Rights SA".

You empower a woman, you empower an entire community - this initiative is open to ALL WHO SUPPORT AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF GENDER EQUALITY.
